SAVE THE CHINESE RIVER DOLPHIN
EMERGENCY: There may only be 5 left in the world
                                 
Known as the baiji (Lipotes vexillifer) or 'white flag' dolphin

This is an EMERGENCY They are a hair's breadth away from extinction. The last (1999) census could find only 5 left in the Yangtze River in China, the only place in the world where they exist. We are close to losing this unique, beautiful animal forever due to industrial waste, boat propellers, and fishing net entanglements. The Chinese government is trying, but they need all the help they can get.
Baiji give birth in April in May after gestation periods of 11 months. They usually live in close-knit family groups of about 10 members, and are wonderfully loving and affectionate with each other, touching and caressing each other and communicating in squeaks.

Write to US President Bush at presidentwhitehouse.gov and your US Senator and Representative (find address at senate.gov and house.gov), donate to the World Wildlife Fund (not affiliated with this e-mail) at worldwildlife.org or call 1-800-CALL-WWF. Write to the US Chinese Ambassador  at chinaembassy_usfmprc.gov.cn (be polite). If you are overseas, write to leaders and the Chinese Ambassador of your country (or forward this message).
Do it for the baiji We are their only hope The world will be so much emptier without them...
