1 y'all need to read this (cheer haters n my cheer girls)

OK...I can understand where the ppl who say 'cheerin ain't a sport' r coming from. They prolly go to the schools that the cheerleading squads don't do much. And they only c the cheerleaders practicing cheers, chants, and dancing. Well, this is going to be my 8th year of cheering n I just wanted to clairfy that cheerleading is considered a sport. We work just as much as the other sports work, sweat as much as the other sports sweat, breathe just like the other sports breathe. So how come some ppl don't consider us a sport? That's what confuses me. I don't want to sound like a completely bad person but for the ppl who don't think it is a sport I really would like it u would come to one of our practices or one of the squads that go to competitions practices. I mean we have them everyday so u could always catch them. Combining dance, gymnastics, stunting, jumping, n cheering is not the easiest thing in the world. We do work alot, and for the ppl who say we don't, well if I can't get it thru ur mind then what's the point?
Our practices consist of many elements. We start by stretching for about 15-20 minutes, so that our muscles are somewhat warmed up so that we don't injure ourselves later. Then we run for about 15 minutes, it may not seem like much but we work ourselves alot later on. Then we will go over the cheers or chants that we had worked on the day before. After that we will work on new cheers or chants that need to be learned. Then we move onto the dancing...Now u may think "oh wow Dancing how hard is that? I mean c'mon" But with our routines and considering how fast the beat is it can be tiring. You can ask ne dancer n they'll tell u how much work it is just to dance. After we go over those routines n learn new counts or new dances we continue w/ stunting. We start off by warming up...like throwing up straight up extensions followed by full downs, or straight up extension liberties. Then we continue onto harder stunts, such as show-and-grows, where we bring the stunt up to a full extension (normally in a lib) n then bring it back down to a prep then shoot it back up to an extension arabesque or something of that nature. Then we work on pyramids as a squad. After we are done with stunting, we work on the tumbling that we need to work on. After the tumbling is over we review the cheers and dances that we worked on earlier in the practice. Sometimes the different stunt groups will show the squad a new technique they learned or an easier way to throw up a stunt. Same goes w/ tumbling. Our practices are about 4 hours long so I still don't see why you can't say that cheerleading is a sport. We sweat as much as u we work as hard as you...
We do work hard n we are a very dedicated sport. We want recognized just as every other sport does for being a sport. We are athletes and some of the girls on our squad do participate in other sports such as track n field, swimming, basketball, or softball. We put in the hours n the work just as any other team or squad does. We are a sport n we will defend it til the day we die When u have a passion for something u will defend it n that's what I am doing.
Recently 3 seniors tryed out n made the basketball squad, and they had to go to camp w/ us just as all the other squads did. They had never been to a camp like the one we went 2 that summer. And after that camp they were amazed how much work they put into it. We got up 5 30 am went to breakfast n then we were outside going to cheer class, stunt class, and dance class until lunch. After lunch we were right back out on the field doing the classes again. We finally were done n they had the evening games n get togethers around 10 30 pm. We got into bed the earliest around 11 30. Sometimes we didnt' get to bed until midnight. N we repeated the same routine for a week. They said it was the hardest week they've had in a long time
I just wanted to clarify that we are a sport n we'll defend it til we stop getting criticism for it. N yes we do have to maintain a C average but that doesn't mean that we get Cs n that doesn't mean we're ditzy Alot of the people on my squad have straight A's and B's. And statistics have proven that cheerleaders are more likely to go to college or further their education. Stats also show that cheerleaders are more likely to maintain good grades n particpate in more school clubs or activities...Im not saying that the other sports don't I just want to prove that we are not just a bunch of girls running around in skirts screaming "go team go". We are MUCH more than that Thanks for your time
With Love
