This is a true story about my Grandfather.

My Grandad was the ordianry Grandad who would tell you stories, sit by the fire, have his own chair and everything but in anthoer way, he was different from all the other ones. He was a diabetic. Even though he was diagnosed with diabetes about 12 years before he passed away, to him, he would always be able to eat sweets, choclates, everything that had the highest sugar percentage in it. In 1986 would have to be the worst time in his life as my Nana died peacefully at home yet unsuspectingly. Little did we know that he would die in the same way.

In the year of 2000 this would have all started. From the years 1997-2000, we never ever really visited Grandad because we were all so busy but then as my father was around were he was living, my dad had knocked but no-one had come to the door. My dad had to use the spare key to only find my Grandad unconsious on his bed knowing that he had a heart-attack. That year in hospital they had to put a pacemaker ( a device which makes the heart pump to normal pace ) and knowing that everything would be fine. Until this happened again 6 months later.

My hole family knew that this would have to stop so we moved him into a smaller apartment with care from the nurses and Meals on Wheels which brought him his food because he was eating junk and people who would clean his house. Little did we know that most of these people could not do their own jobs which made us even more paranoid about how he was going to live.

In between this period, we found out that their was a growth on his brain and a tumor in one of his glands which we knew that he couldn't live for long anymore.

By this time it was the middle of the year 2002 and my brother had his 21st birthday coming up so we had to organize my brothers 21st party and also sort out Grandad. My hole family decided to move him into a rest-home even though my Grandad never liked the fact that he had to live with other Elderly people has he said felt "horrible".

It was the 27th of September, The 5th day that my Grandad had been in the rest-home and everyday we had been checking up on him but this day was also the day before my brothers 21st birthday. I was continuously asking my parents whether we could go visit but my parents were too busy to organise the house and everything but then as we got takeaways that night the phone rang. My father was replying to the other person on the other line "o no, really?" "yes i totally agree" and other things and all of a sudden, I didnt feel like eating. It was the rest-home my father told me, as he came to hug me "Grandad just passed away."

That night we went to visit him and our hole family were just stunned. We couldn't believe it when we saw him. He was dead and we hadn't even visited him. For my brother, I think that would have to be one of the worst birthdays for him but his girlfriend tryed to cheer him up but I hadn't even known my Grandad properly but he would have to be one of the nicest Elderly men I knew even though we knew that he was going to die soon. Everything came so unsuspectingly but he wanted this to happen so that he could be with Nana. He always said that so hopefully he is enjoying heaven because this isn't the last time I'm going to see you.
