Human Cloning

Most people who are anti-cloning are against cloning for religious reasons.  These are mostly Christians.  For the government to ban cloning would be favoring one of the many religions in the US, which is against the fundamental principals of the US government.  One of the other most common reasons for anti-cloning is sympathy for the cloned child.  It is true that if the child grew up in a lab around scientist, with no specific "Mother" and "Father" figures, and constant harassment from the press, this could be an awful life, and I am definitely not for this.  However, this will not happen.  Just because scientists create humans, doesn't mean they torture humans; they have the common sense to know that they need to bring up the cloned child like a normal child.  Scientists have been stereotyped as being cruel and inhumane, partially because of the typical Hollywood portrayal of the "Mad scientist".  This is not true; they are legitimate, religious, affable people with a wife and children, and a normal life outside of work.  The remaining issue is the attention from the press.  I feel that the press could easily be restrained from interviewing the child, especially if the identity of the cloned child remains classified.
So people ask why?  Why do we have to make a duplicate of an existing human being?  Same reason we split atoms, study the Antarctic, and send satellites to Neptune; to expand human knowledge of the world and universe, as well as helping to ensure the security of the human race.  Maybe one day it will be necessary to inhabit the Antarctic, or even another planet because of overpopulation of the earth.  On the other hand, it may be necessary to clone humans because of under-population due to pollution, starvation, ozone deficiency, etc.  It is also possible that it will be necessary to clone humans for use in medical research; two identical people to test could easily help to find cures to deadly diseases such as cancer, or some type of epidemic (such as influenza, SARS, or pneumonic plague, also known as black death) or pandemic (such as AIDS), that would otherwise kill tens of thousands.
So what if a person like Ted Bundy, or Hitler got hold of information of cloning?  This is a scary issue, especially because any psychotic disorders could easily be passed on to the clone.  However, it is essentially too late.  Information about methods and techniques for cloning humans is already openly available on the Internet, and in other public media.  Another point to remember is that the way a person is brought up has a huge amount of influence of the personality of the person.  It is a common misconception that someone with the exact same DNA as, for example, a psychotic serial killer, will guarantee that this person will be a psychotic serial killer.  The DNA only gives people the potential, especially when involving such random and unpredictable things as the human brain.  Most of a person’s personality is decided by their upbringing, not their DNA.  It is true that the cloned person would probably have any mental disorders that the original person had, but having the disorder does NOT force the person to behave the same way as other people with the same disorder.
