An Iraqi War
Rating: PG-13
Quality: (Quality: Unrated)
It seems that the US government has succeeded in keeping its people oblivious to their true motivations concerning the war in Iraq. Many people who contribute to this site still seem to think that Bush went to war to get back at those who attacked his country on 9/11.
Actually, that was his reason for occupying Afghanistan, and I don't think anyone has attacked him for that. Yes, we understand, you bomb 3000, we bomb 30,000. Maybe we SHOULD have questioned it.
It was never put out there in international media that the Iraqi war was a response to the 9/11 tragedy. That is why the war effort began a year and a half after that terrorist attack. The reasons given to the rest of the world were that there were weapons of mass destruction in the country. Do you not think that the United States has its own stronghold of nuclear and biological weapons? By all means, of course they do. Of course Saddam Hussein is a bad guy, but we've known that for years and still the US has pledged billion of dollars in Aid to his government. Where else do you think they got the money to develop these 'weapons' which, by the way, were never found. Bush's reason for going to war was completely unfounded.
The US military has been in Iraq for nearly a year, and nothing that can be deemed as a 'weapon of mass destruction' has been found. Soon after the US began the war effort in Iraq, though, North Korea came forward and said that they had a Nuclear weapons program. I don't see the US rushing over there to stomp down that threat, so what is different between Iraq and North Korea? Oil. I'm not going to get into it anymore than that, but this is a war for oil and the blood of the innocent will never wash from Bush's hands.
Now that Saddam has been captured, everyone will praise God and forget what's really happening over there. Innocent men, women, and children are dieing. Children. Iraq's children are dieing from air strikes and live ammunition being left in their communities. They are not Saddam Hussein, they are Iraq. So they must die. Can't the world see it's not right? They have names they give casualties of war so they don't have to say 'murder', but it's nothing short of it.
If you want to talk about murder and terrorist threats, why doesn't the US government take a closer look at their own streets. The US experiences over 10,000 murders each year, over 3 times that of the mass murder of 9/11. So why is that acceptable? Rather than spending his billions on war efforts overseas, why doesn't he fight the war raging in his own streets? It's drugs, it's gangs, it's racism, it's poverty, it's not the muslim faith or people of arab decent. I think we should pick our battles, and the Iraq war is not one of them.
