Computerland
Rating: PG-13
Quality: (Quality: Unrated)
Once upon a time in Computerland there was a king called IBM. All his courtiers wore dark suits, white shirts and dark ties, and they thought that King IBM would reign forever. He made big, expensive computers. He was, said some, the most powerful King in the world and everything he said was true.
Then a young pretender appeared called Prince Apple. He wore hippie clothes and hung out in Silicon Valley, south of San Fransisco. King IBM was wrong, he said: computers should be small, easy to use and available to everybody. They fought terrieble battles and Prince Apple won a few. But IBM reigned on, even though he was forced to make some computers called PCs that were small and cheap.
But both IBm and Apple were making a big mistake. For in a wet city called Seattle, 700 miles north of the Valley, there was a new King called Microsoft. He knew that making computers was a complete waste of time: what counted was making software. Soon everybody realised this and they flocked to join the Microsoft army. Apple and IBM found themselves on the losing side. King Microsoft told the world what the future was going to be like, and the world believed him.
