1 A True Story About A Punk

Hi my name is Stephanie and I wanted to tell you about an incident that happened a while ago and it still makes me sick to this day.

I know a guy called Kevin and he is into hardcore punk (most defnitely not Good Charlotte). He matches many descriptions of your average stereotype. You know 18 inch high bright red mohawk, facial piercings, bondage trousers, ripped clothes, studs, pins etc. But when it comes dow to it he's just an ordinary 18 year old guy. The only thing is his passion for his punk. Everyone who he knows have not got a problem with the way he dresses or expresses himself. He may look a threat with this tough guy image but underneath it all he's all you could wish for in a friend. Now I haven't really known him too long but the time in which I have I have seen his hair get bigger and change colour and I have definitely seen the more sensitive side to him. In fact you can say that yes he is my crush but that's really beside the point. I wanted to introduce to you what he was like, he's caring, loving and a great laugh and ready to stand up for what he believes in. Thatswhat I respect about him, his individuality and creativity. We wouldn't want anyone to inflict pain upon him. That's why I am telling you this. There are some sick judgemental people around these days. So looks really matter do they? I thought that it was about the respect for others not about stereotyping."He's a punk so he must be a tough guy, I could easily beat him up." So that's what the idiots who obviously don't know him thought. He was attacked by a large gang of men, grown men in their twenties, not like it was kids. It was a terrible affair. It was about ten against one, he put up a good fight too and never gave in.He wanted to prove to himself that the bullies wouldn't win but he's only human after all and there were about ten angry drunken and violent people so that's when it did get nasty. He got stomped on, dragged across the floor, punched, kicked in the stomach and ribs when he was down, spat at, shouted at, laughed at, tormented and what over? Oh yes I almost forgot over a haircut. Some man hated his haircut and like any normal man who had abuse thrown at him in a bar, he would say somethingback to the man who hated the mohawk. In fact they broke most of his teeth, ripped his face open and also sent him to hospital unconcious. The attack couldn't have just been down to the alcohol, yes it can be argued that it makes the average man violent but to beat someone up for a haircut just proved how shallow and how pathetic the man were. Now my story is over, my friend has recovered perfectly but I am still worried about seeing him about on his own.A punk walking down the street,no offence,is almost saying "come and get me". However I feel that if people went past the haircut and the piercings and the torn clothing then the world would be a better place. Unfortunately we cannot do anything about it, people hate punks and punk related attacks happen everyday. I just want to let people know that just because there is a huge fuss about the way people express others there is room for criticism but not to the extent of putting an innocent guy in hospital. Think about how you do treat others, punks are people too.
