the only reason I don't agree with you, is because there is more reason than that to stop listening to a band once they go mainstream.  take good charlotte for example: when their first cd came out(self-titled), they were awesome because they had great music, and it reached out to their fans, and they were true to their fans. i met them on several occasions, and they were awesome-they loved to talk to their fans after the shows. but now that theyre bigger, they don't do that anymore(and its partly understandable, because theyre big) but they lost a lot of respect from their first fans. and also, they are made out to be like, 'Good Charlotte, a.k.a. Benji and Joel' you know? theyre the only ones who get recognized in the band. and i just think it's stupid. so i sorta went off track there, but oh well.
