1 a a a a true war story, not an urban legend.

About a week later they received a call saying that the father was Missing in Action on Iwo Jima (one of the bloodiest battles of the war). The family was understandably devestated. They waited another year and ahalf until the war ened, the father was not among the American Prisoners of War released and he was officially declared dead.
The mother and son moved in with relatived and life went on. When the Vietnam War broke out in the mid 60's the son was drafted and sent to Vietnam as a Marine.
For about two years the son and the mother kept in touch, until the letters from the son stopped, and he was declared MIA. The mother was devestated again until she received a call telling her that her son was severley wounded, but alive and doing well.
When she was able to talk to her son he told her this story...
When during a night-time patrol his platoon was ambushed by the Vietcong, he was shot in the stomach(a death wound in the feild) and left to die.
He thought himself dead when a man appeared over him, a man in his mid 20's wearing old gear, and carrying a WWII era rifle and helmut. Without a word the man picked the boy up among intense gunfire and carried him for hours at a running pace to a first aid station. The man said "be safe" and the boy passed out.
When he awoke he was in a hospital in Saigon, he was carried in by the medics and was being taken care of by the staff. He had no visitors, when he looked at a chair next to him, with sand on it and all over the floor leaned in towards his bed. He asked who had visited him and sat here and the nurse said no one. The boy looked closer to see dog tags aroung the chair post. He read it to realized it was his fathers dog tag it had a bullet hole in between one with dried blood around it.
