Hey, finally, an atheist who doesn't condemn back. Kudos (what the heck does that mean by the way?). It was refreshing to read an atheists note that doesn't offend me. I totally understand why you don't talk about your atheism, especially around people who don't exactly act Christian. It has never been the Christian's job to condemn.
Concerning your first note about who created God: it is well known that by studying stars and the quantum theory, that theoretically, if we turn the clocks back and look at the history of the universe, we see the universe contracting. This was due to the big bang. If we follow the universe's contraction back to the big bang singularity. Unfortunately we cannot, at the time being, see back past 1x10'-43 seconds after the big bang event. Once the universe and the four dimensions of length, width, thickness, and time. In order for a non-universe entity to coexist at this time, this entity would not be bound by space and/or time. Without space and time, all natural laws of the universe cease to exist. THere can either be something, or nothing. Because we do have something, an infinitely dense ball, we cannot have nothing, and we could never have had nothing. Because their exist no natural laws, a God could exist without a beginning, or an end. However, this incredibly dense matter gives birth to something with a definite beginning, and likewise an end. Without laws, nothing can begin or end, thereby, an entity without laws, without doing anything against a law of nature, could knit together a universe with a definite beginning and end.
This transcendental big bang model of the universe was popularized by the physisists at reasons.org, I don't really understand how it exactly works, and I am pretty sure that I am not explaining this correctly, but it is something to the same extent.
Now, for the eternal torture of Hell. I personally believe that people go to Hell, not because they didn't conform to God, but because they believe, as Milton said it through the devil in "Paradise Lost", that it is better to rule in Hell then to serve in Heaven. Now there exists some colorful descriptions of Hell, however, putting onesself into a Christian mindset, Hell is merely the lack of God's presence. Keeping the Christian mindset, with all goodness removed, Hell becomes just as bad as it is described in the Bible. For an interesting view about Heaven and Hell, read The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis.
