I already wrote on this subject, in salvation plan for those in primitive cultures. Although almost everyone will give you a different answer for the question, only one can be correct from a Christian point of view, so here it is.
the question: "do people who have never heard of Jesus, never been around someone who knew about Jesus, but still lived a really, really good life, still go to Hell?"
the answer: I have found the answer in many places in the Bible, and since I am a Christian and the answer is asked to a Christian, I will answer it from a strictly Biblical viewpoint.
The basic idea is that wherever one goes, he can see God all around in the natural world and in people. Based on whatever he can see of God all around him, he will be held accountable for. In 3 John 1:11, John writes, "Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God." It is idiotic to think that a person who may never have heard of God is incapable of doing what is good. What a Christian believes is that because Christian theology ascribes to an absolute system of morality (not in specific details, but in basic ideas of love your neighbor as yourself).
Also very interesting to note, is that even those who were in direct relation with Jesus Christ had the same system of salvation as those who do not know of Christ. "Simon Peter answered, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.' Jesus replied, 'Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in Heaven..." Matthew 16:16-17. Even if one has met Jesus Christ, they will be held accountable for the light that they have seen.
