A great loss experienced.

My friend Shaun was a great person. He was 17. School had ended about 2 days earlier. It was a Friday Night about 10 o'clock. Shaun and two other friends were just riding in their car, like they had done so many times before. Then they came to a red light, so they stop. When the light turns green, they begin to pull out. As they do, this truck comes from out of nowhere and t-bones the car on the passenger side, where Shaun was. Shaun was airlifted out on a helicopter to the nearest hospital and he died a few hours later.
17 years on this earth isn't long, but it is long enough to get to know someone and love them. And unfortunately that span of a few hours will cause a lifetime of pain and regret.
The driver of the truck was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. All that guy wanted to do was have a good time, and unfortunately it cost my friend Shaun his life. I do not condone the behavior of the guy in that truck, I think drinking and drugs are both wrong, but if you are going to take part in that, at least keep it off the roads and highways. When you get in that car not only are you endangering your own life, but you're endangering the life of so many innocent people.
My school will begin again in about two weeks. Unfortunately I have to go back there without Shaun. I remember how excited he was because we were going to be seniors this year, and he was so happy that it was finally our turn to graduate and be done with it. Now he'll never get to experience that. I just pray for his family that they can continue with their lives.
At the age of 17 myself, I have lost 3 friends to drunk drivers in a few years. It's a hard road to go, and it's a painful road to travel. So painful in fact that I couldn't bear to attend my friend's funeral. It hurt too much. To this day if I saw the guy that hit Shaun's car, it would take a great amount of strength for me not to go after that guy. I have so much anger toward that man, I just wish that people would think about their actions.
Shaun, gone but never forgotten. R.I.P.
