Goodbye Dear Friend
If there were a way to start your life over
Would you take the chance?
Do you think you could make it better
If you took life for a different dance?
If you could do it all again
Knowing what you know now,
Would you have been my friend?
I cant help but wonder how.
Youve been a great friend
And I cant believe Im letting you go
But the reason why,
I think you already know.
Ill always be here if
Things dont seem to go your way.
Ill be here to lean on
On any given day.
I hope that you realize
This goodbye is not the end
I hope that you realize
I will always be your friend
But the time has come,
As we head down different roads,
That we must see where life takes us,
A road we must walk alone.
I have many regrets.
I wish I had been a better friend.
But I didnt realize it
Till our time was coming to an end.
Alas the time has come
The end has arrived
I hope that you find
Whatever youre looking for in life
I wish I didnt have to say this
But it is long overdue
I cant be a part of your life
It just wont do.
You have chosen one path
With the Devil taking your hand
I have chosen God’s path
Where Ill trod over rough land.
Tell me, is it worth it?
A life of pleasure on earth
To give up eternity in heaven
To give up your second birth?
Where you are headed I can not go
The Lord has called me on
I am a part of Gods army
Im an army of one
Your life has become a battleground
One Im desperate to win,
But God is losing the battle
The Devil has the upper hand.
I wish I could do something,
But Ive done all I could
Ive tried to fight the good fight
Just like I said I would.
But this battle rages on
And I fear God will never win
When the battle is over
Your soul will be in the Devils hand.
I know this makes no sense
You dont think youve done any wrong
But you have been shielded from the truth
For far, far too long.
I wish there were an easy way to do this
But in my search I have found none
I just dont want to say,
Thats it, were done
We had a beautiful friendship
We shared a special bond
I dont want to be the one to break it
But to hold on to it is wrong
To act like nothing has happened
Like I dont see your sin
Is like saying of God
“I dont believe in him”
He said you can only have one master
Well, youve chosen sin for yours.
I have chosen Jesus
So I can walk the crystal shores.
I guess my goodbye is over.
I cant think of the words to say
I wish things had gone differently
That our friendship ended a different way.
Please regard me fondly
As through your life you trod
But dont expect me to be there
Ive waited for this far too long
I kept hoping you would change
That the goodbye would not have to come
But that change never came
And there isnt a hope, not even one.
Our friendship was for a reason
The purpose is achieved
Now it is time to move on
Both for you and for me.
I wish I could be there
But I cant support your choice
I myself would be sinning
If I didnt raise my voice.
On judgement day
I know that you will be near
Your blood will be on my hands
Because I didnt help you here.
But I dont know what else to do
You are too set in your ways.
I can only hope that this goodbye
Will open your eyes, even if only for a day.
