"How often do I thank God for you?"
"Well, there was that one time that I...oh wait...I complained instead..."
"How 'bout that time when my mom...no...actually, I yelled back at her..."
"I know" I thought to myself. "One time I..." I sighed, "actually, that wasn't even me."
I sat on my chair thinking hard about the times I've been thankful for you.
Is it that difficult to think of ONE instance?
"Hmmm...maybe you've never been worthy of my thanksgiving?" I thought to myself.
"I mean...it was YOU who allowed me to fail my test when it would determine if I would be on the honor roll"
"And, it was YOU who allowed my mom to find out that I went to that party instead of going to the library after school"
"And it was YOU who allowed my brother to be on the football team and not me"
"It was YOU"
Then...I got to thinking...
"And it was You who stripped Yourself of ALL glory and humbled Yourself to a lowly servant."
"And it was You who was led to an old rugged cross to die for ME...for ME"
"And it was You who preserved me and my friends from dying on the road after that party."
"It was YOU"
"How often do I thank God for You?"
"When I receive an "A" on my test?"
"When I make a touchdown or two at the game?"
"When I have the best relationship with my parents?"
"Thank You for teaching me that it is not of my own capacity, but it is YOU who gives all knowledge and wisdom."
"Thank You for giving me parents who discipline me in all Your ways."
"Thank You for teaching me that my strength is Your weakness."
"Thank You, Lord, for the TRIALS"
How often do we thank YOU, Lord? We are thankful for our homes, but isn't it YOU who shelters us? We are thankful for our families, but isn't it YOU who cares for us? We are thankful for our money, and our clothes, and our food, but isn't it YOU who is the Giver of ALL things?
Lord, Teach us to be thankful.
Why is it that Americans reserve ONE day to give thanks, and 364 days to complain?
Far worse, why has this single day of THANKS been replaced by a day of TRADITION?
