ht Before Christmas (Christian version)
Rating:
Quality: (Quality: Unrated)
'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house,
All the presents were wrapped, especially my mom's blouse,
The tree was adorned with tinsel and lights,
There was even an elf ornament in little green tights.
But, Lo, and Behold, something was missing,
Amidst the whole family hugging and kissing,
No, it wasn't the love. Yes, that was all there,
And it wasn't the dinner, for I would not care--
If the turkey had been burnt or the gravy not stirred,
For who ever had the most perfect bird,
It wasn't the presents, for they overflowed--
From the living room floor to even the road.
No--I stopped down to think what could be wrong,
For we've already sung my favorite Christmas song,
Had we forgotten an important task?
Now that's the question I'd like to ask.
And there it caught me, my eyes would not stray
From a bare little spot where the manger used to lay,
No shepherds, no wisemen, no Joseph, no Mary
To stand in awe of the Christ--a little baby.
How could we forget our Savior's birth,
Isn't He the reason for this season's mirth?
I sat in amazement, looking above,
Wondering how we had forgotten our first love.
For this small little babe would not stay in this stall,
But would grow up to be the King over all,
And that small lowly manger would be tossed out as dross.
For it would soon be replaced by an old rugged cross.
Just think--that He who was once wrapped in swaddling clothes,
Was to be stripped naked, bleeding--a Man of Sorrows,
And would later be buried in a cold empty tomb,
Just think of all the sadness and gloom.
But the Christmas story does not end here,
For never a dead man brought us any cheer,
For three days after the seal was broken,
And the disciples were glad from what the angel had spoken,
"He is not here,
He is no longer dead,
Go tell of the news,
That He is risen instead."
My eyes filled with tears as I saw that bare spot,
I tried to control it, but no, I could not,
I searched through the house as fast as I could,
And then I saw the place where it stood,
A box in the closet covered with dust,
I took it down and blew it, for I knew that I must--
Display it with pride on the table by the tree,
So it would shine in the light for ALL to see.
My eyes gleamed with joy as I saw the joyous scene,
Of the birth of the Christ--if only I could have been--
In that stable to worship like those men from the east,
Or even those shepherds, who were considered the least.
But I can still tell the news of that wonderful sight,
About what happened that one silent night.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-night,
I pray that you all will worship Christ, the Saving Light
