This is a true story

I used to live in a quiet neighbourhood, near my mates. it was right near our school and a couple of local shops.

One day me and my mates, kelsie, kate and Louise where sitting on my front garden in the sun, chilling. when a car turned down our road. that was odd. our street was a very small street, which was a dead end, there were only a few houses, and there was almost never any visitors. we watched the car park outside the house nextdoor to me. we stared curiously as a strange couple and a young girl got out and went inside the house.
"oh look" pointed Louise "we have new neighbours"
we all talked about what our new neighbours might be like untill it got late and my mates had to go home.

The next day at school, me, Kelsie, kate and louise where in form when the new girl from nextdoor came in. Mrs shaw said "Everybody this is Emily"
then she said "Clair, i would like you to show Emily around the school untill she knows where everything is"
"Ok" i said excitedly, this would be our chance to meet her and get to know her.
she sat on the same table as me and my mates. we talked to her and asked her lots of questions, but she seemed very shy and didnt talk.
A few weeks later we finally persuaded her to talk. we were asking her what she liked and what was her favourite program and things. she had a tear in her eye as she spook. "I don't have a tv" she said. me and my mates looked at each other curiously then we turned back to her and Kelsie said without thinking, "What do you mean you dont have a tv? thats crazy what life would it be withut a tv? i would go mad without a tv dont you even have a life?..."
We quickly made Kelsie shut up as we saw Emily burst into tears. "Daddy said we cant afford to waste money on luxuries because we need the money to buy food"
we were all horrified. i felt so sorry for her, because she was so poor. we tried our best to cheer her up.

A few months later we broke up for the christmas holidays.
when we came back to school me and my mates were all talking about what we got for christmas, then we relied we had abbandoned Emily, so we all turned our attention to her and asked her nicely what she got for christmas.
there was a smile on her face as she looked up at us and said "I got a dog"
we were all suspicous. If she was so poor, how did her parents afford to buy her a dog for christmas.
"Whats your dogs name?" asked kate
Emily hesitated, then smiled, and said "Princess"
we all relized what was going on, which made us sad and we all felt very sorry for Emily, she hadn't got anything for christmas, but she didnt want to be left out so she thought she would impress us by pretending she had a pet dog. so we all went along with it pretending to belive her. then after school we asked her "can we see your dog?"
she ran home and came back out, pretending to hold something.
"Where is she?" asked louise
Emily looked down and said "Here see"
we looked at each other
"um.. i dont see anything" said Kelsie
"Shes right here see" said Emily
we pretended to agree with her, and pretended to stroke her dog.

This went on for a few months everday she would pretend to walk her dog to the park and we all started to ignore her games, thinking she was attention seeking.

then one day we saw Emily sitting on the curb, crying. We felt sorry fo her so we decided to go over and ask her whats wrong.
She was moving her hand backwards and forwards above the road, as if she was stroking something.
"Princess.." she mutterd
"Princess" she burst into tears again
"I was walking princess and she ran into the road... i tired to stop her... but it was too late"
tears flooded my eyes, i couldnt help myslef. for that moment i really belive that Emily had Truely belived in princess. that she had wanted it to be true so much that she made herself belive Princess was a real dog i was mortified i felt so sorry for her. her belive in princess had made her become real, out of her control. so that it was like princess really had died.
i felt so guilty, all this time we had been ignoring her, what we thought was attention seaking, was acctualy true. and i will never forget Emilys story, even though it seems so stupid, that it was just an imaginary dog, it broke her heart. i have moved now to a bigger town, but i will never forget Emily and her real dog princess.
