1 Best Friends Forever

Years ago, when I graduated from 12th grade, a girl in my class name Hannah stepped up on stage. We hadn’t received our diploma’s yet and were eager for everything to be over. You see, she was the Valedictorian and was expected to make a speech.
Hannah cleared her throat and leaned in to the microphone,“I know I am the Valedictorian and I should say how we acheived so much and all, but that’s not what i’m going to do. This year, it’s a little different.” Then she stepped back and someone moved the podium out of the way. Suddenly, music started over the speakers and Hannah pulled up a microphone. Then she started to sing-

And so we talked all night about the rest of our lives
Where we're gonna be when we turn 25
I keep thinking times will never change
Keep on thinking things will always be the same
But when we leave this year we won't be coming back
No more hanging out cause we're on a different track
And if you got something that you need to say
You better say it right now cause you don't have another day
Cause we're moving on and we can't slow down
These memories are playing like a film without sound
And I keep thinking of that night in June
I didn't know much of love
But it came too soon
And there was me and you
And then we got real blue
Stay at home talking on the telephone
We'd get so excited, we'd get so scared
Laughing at ourselves thinking life's not fair
And this is how it feels

As we go on
We remember
All the times we
Had together
And as our lives change
Come Whatever
We will still be
Friends Forever

So if we get the big jobs
And we make the big money
When we look back now
Will our jokes still be funny?
Will we still remember everything we learned in school?
Still be trying to break every single rule
Will little brainy Bobby be the stockbroker man?
Will Heather find a job that won't interfere with her tan?
I keep, I keep thinking that it's not goodbye
Keep on thinking it's a time to fly
And this is how it feels

As we go on
We remember
All the times we
Had together
And as our lives change
Come Whatever
We will still be
Friends Forever

La, la, la, la:
Yeah, yeah, yeah
La, la, la, la:
We will still be friends forever

Will we think about tomorrow like we think about now?
Can we survive it out there?
Can we make it somehow?
I guess I thought that this would never end
And suddenly it's like we're women and men
Will the past be a shadow that will follow us 'round?
Will these memories fade when I leave this town
I keep, I keep thinking that it's not goodbye
Keep on thinking it's a time to fly

As we go on
We remember
All the times we
Had together
And as our lives change
Come Whatever
We will still be
Friends Forever.........

By the time Hannah had gotten to the last chorus, everyone was standing, singing, and we had our arms linked. All of us girls were crying, and even a few guys had tears in their eyes. Hannah had summed it all up- we can acheive in life and in jobs, but we will never remember those who are important to us. We will always be friends forever.
Some years later, I was twenty-one. I was in a used CD outlet when I saw that CD. Tears came to my eyes as I picked it up and bought it. After I listened to that track a couple times, I wrapped it up and sent it to my best friend from highschool, Kiki. She was living alone in an apartment in NYC, unmarried. We had been like sisters, but lost contact after school.
A few days later, I got a letter in the mail. It was postmarked from NYC I quickly opened the note and read it:

Biggy-Beans

I laughed. That had been my nickname for  Betty Bean.

Thank you so much It feels so great to hear from old classmates and to know you still care. I never forgot the message Hannah sent us four years ago, when we were stupid and young. I love you so much and you are still wonderful I hope I can see my sister again real soon

Kiki

I was already crying by the time I had finished the letter, and was sobbing when I saw what she had sent me- the receipt from our Best Friend necklaces. I knew I had to still have mine somewhere. They were pink leopard with a half a heart that had Best on one, Friend on the other.
After that, we and Kiki became best friends again. For three years, we were inseperable. Then, I became engaged. For those six months in which me and my fiance planned our wedding, Kiki and I saw less of each other. Finally, she confronted me the day before I was to be married.
“Betty, I just don’t think we’re as close as before What is going to happen to us when we’re married an old? Friends forever, remember?” I looke dup at Kiki, “Of course I would never ever forget you Remember Frank?” She nodded. Frank was an ex of mine, “He was kind, and funny, but he didn’t like you. So I couldn’t be with him. That’s why we broke up. Because I didn’t want to be with someone who wouldn’t like my sister also.”
The next day, at my wedding, Kiki stood up front as my maid of honor as I married Gale. At the reception, we hugged each other tight and promised to never forget, our necklaces around our necks.

And we’ve never forgotten each other, because true best friends never forget.
