Pain That No One Sees

And how worthless you made me feel.
I didn’t want to think about it,
Didn’t want it to be real.
I wanted a way to drown my pain and sarrow,
Take my hurt away.
I thought about not waking up tomorrow,
Of not living another day.
I took the blade slowly to my palm,
My wrists and ankles too.
I didn’t think about the consequences then,
I couldn’t think of anything else to do.
I took a short trip into the kitchen,
For water and salt and ice.
Put them together, on my wrist,
Is it weird it felt kind of nice?
Last night our song came on the radio,
And I did something really dumb.
I didn’t think about what would happen to me,
Only wanted to be totally numb.
I held the pillow to my head,
Prepared to take my last breath.
When I started to shake and gasp,
I realized I might be close to death.
I thought about him, and my poor friend,
Half sobbing next to me on the bed.
She yelled at me hit me too,
Cuz she wanted it off me head.
The things that you take for granted sometimes,
Could one day save you too.
All it takes is one friend,
Or someone to say they love you.
For now my heart will beat on,
And I’ll continue to breathe.
But now at least everyone knows,
About my problems no one sees.
