I was always told not to drink and drive.

Because one day I might just not be alive.

I didn’t listen and I didn’t think.

Now my life is changed in just one blink.

I had left for a party for just one night.

Mom and dad didn’t wait up and turned out their light.

I had too much fun and drank just a little too much.

Instead of calling my parents I got in my car and pulled back the clutch.

I left the parking lot and stepped on the gas.

Next thing I heard were loud screams and shattering glass.

Then my car smashed into a dead tree.

Little did I know the driver I put in danger was dying just because of me.

He didn’t do anything, just coming home from work.

He had a family with 3 kids and worked at a store as a clerk.

Now he was lying there on the street.

Lifelessly moving on the cold concrete.

As I lied there on the floor of what was left of my car.

I felt the guilt because I was gonna walk away with only a scar.

I see the flashing lights and here the cops say.

Call this mans family and tell them to come right away.

Then the head cop walked over to me and helped me get up and away from the tree.

As I walked away I glanced down the street.

As people stared and pointed at the man I would never get to meet.

The next day I went to court.

It didn’t take long cause the trial was short.

They read me my rights then took me to jail.

As I watched my parents shake there heads and faces that were pale.

So as you read this poem just be glad you are alive.

I made the biggest mistake of my life so don’t drink and drive.
