A lifetime of horror nights

First I'd like to tell you about Jason, he was a guy at my school and we were pretty good friends, anyway we were all on holidays and when we got back to school we got the shocking news that Jason and his brother Luke had been in a car accident. We were all shocked but when they told us how bad it really was we couldnt move it was almost like the shock of it all was holding us firmly in place and wasnt going to let us go. Anyway Jason had extensive injuries to his legs he had shattered one of his legs completely and broken the other in several places he had head injuries and multiple cuts and bruises all over his body.
Luke who had been driving had to had a face reconstruction he had, had part of his face 'ripped off' and at Jasons funeral you could still see the scars and he looked a mess. Jason died exactly two weeks after the accident, and that night Luke had tried to committ suicide. He had killed his little brother, all coz he was drinking and decided to get behind the wheel. Jason was a week away from being fifteen that was three yrs ago. At the funeral Luke helped carry his brothers coffin most of our grade was there and there wasnt a dry eye in the room. None of us could believe that our ever smiling trolley adventure boy had gone all because of 1 little mistake.
Next I'd like to tell you James' story. He was out about 6 months ago with his friends. They all drive and usually they are good and have a DD but this night they didnt. After they had been kicked out of the pub for being disorderly they got in their cars all six of them three in one car three in another. they were driving along one of the backroads near Brads (james' cousin) house when James who was driving his brand new Nissan Skyline lost control after swerving to miss a possum on the road, he plowed into the side of a parked car and smashed up the front of his car. The boys in the other car saw what happened and stopped only slightly missing the back of James car. when they got out they saw James hanging out of his window coz he wasnt wearing a seatbelt, the steering wheel had broken most of his ribs and as his head swung round it broke the glass in his window. His sister was sitting in the passenger seat and wasnt wearing a seatbelt either she went thru the front windscreen and slammed her head on the back of the other car, cracking her skull and killing her instantly, her boyfriend Tristan was sitting in the backseat with a seat belt on and suffered a few broken ribs and a broken collarbone but he saw it all happen and he watched as his girlfriend was thrown from the car and one of his mates was killed the worst part Tristan was the least drunk out of all of them and he could have safely driven had he tried and now he lives with the question of 'If he'd been more persistent would his mate and gf still be here?' I got a phone call from brad at 1 in the morning and i was at James' house on the couch waiting for him to come home. I had to tell his mum that he and his sister had been in an accident. She was a mess and still is she couldnt eat or get out of bed the first time she got out of bed was on the day of the joint funeral where we laid James and Christina to rest she gave a moving eulogy. James was my boyfriend and normally i would have gone out with him but i had to work late so they went without me. If I'd gone with them i could be dead right now.
i have one more story and then i promise ill get to my point. This time the story is about me. I was driving a couple of my friends home we'd just been out to our dancing class so none of us had been drinking we were about two km from Nikkis house when out of nowhere a car comes out of an intersection and plows into my side and pushes the car along untill it wraps itself around a tree. I'm in the drivers seat, nikkis behind me, Jaime is next to her and Shannon is in the front passenger seat. As soon as the car hits my side i blacked out so i dont remeber much but apprently nikki who wasnt wearing a seatblet flung into Jaime and she smacked her head on her window breaking the glass. then as the car hits the tree on the other side nikki flies back into her own window. Shannon who is in the front seat hit her head on the dash but wasnt seriously injured. she was able to get out of the car i looked like the easiest to get out so she tried to get me out of the car. but she couldnt get the door open coz it was jammed. the guy who hit us had tried to flee but couldnt all he could do was back away from my car and try to help shannon which in his state he couldnt. so he sat in the gutter and cried. Shannon then tried nikkis door but still couldnt get her out so finally she tried Jaimes door which wasnt damaged all that much. Jaime was awake but dazed she said her neck was hurting so shannon was careful in helping her out of my totaled car. the girls called triple zero and waited for the paramedics they had to cut me and nikki out of the car. when i finally came to i was in a hospital bed shannon was sitting beside me holding my hand. She had tears streaming down her face, when i asked what had happened she told me that nikki had died just before they got her to the hospital, Jamie was upstairs in the spinal unit, she had dislodged three of her vertabrae in her upper back and neck one of which had a crack in it that needed surgery. She is now in physical therapy to try and walk again. i had major head contusions and they thought i had bled into my brain, and i suffered a heamorage but thankfully it wasnt to serious.
That night i could have lost my life and three of my friends as well all becasue soem idiot thought it was a good idea to get behind the wheel of a car while he was drunk. he was charged with involuntary manslaughter and four counts of drink driving endangering life as well as drug charges. He was sentenced to thirteen yrs imprisonment and he has no parole oppurtunities. of course to me and my friends he should be given life but thats the way the system works. At nikkis funeral we asked if he could go just to see how much pain he had inflicted because of his mistake. He saw all of her friends, pictures of her, he heard stories about my beautiful girl by the end he was in tears as well as everyone else. he walked up to me and shannon and Jaime and sad he was sorry for what he'd done, and he hoped we could forgive him, i dont know whether i can tho he took from me one of the most beautiful girls i have ever met and he nearly took the rest of us with her. So i guess im not ready to forgive him.
I guess my point in telling these stories is that no matter how little you've had you are putting someone elses life as well as your own life in danger. Drink driving doesnt just affect the injured people involved it affects the families of the victims as well. I just hope that by reading this you'll think twice beforedrink driving or getting into a car with someone whose been drinking.
