1 A Three-minute Instruction-Following Test

This test has been designed to measure your ability to follow instructions. There are sixteen sentences of instruction. The time limit is THREE MINUTES ONLY. So, get a piece of paper and a pencil. Remember to follow the directions as well as you can. Paper and pencil ready? BEGIN:

1. Read everything before doing anything.
2. Put your name in the upper-right corner of the paper.
3. Circle your name three times.
4. Draw five small squares in the upper left-hand corner of the paper.
5. Put an X in each square mentioned in number 4.
6. Put a circle around each square.
7. Sign your name at the bottom-right corner of the page.
8. Along the left edge of the paper, write "Yes, yes, yes"
9. Put an X in the bottom-left corner of the page.
10.Draw a triangle around the X you just made.
11.On the back of the page, multiply 30 X 70.
12.Draw a circle around the result of the multiplication.
13. Loudly call out your first name when you get to this point in the test.
14. If you think that you have carefully followed directions, call out "I have"
15. Count in your normal speaking voice 1-10 backwards.
16. Now that you have finished reading carefully, do sentence 1.

If you were smart enough to read everything before doing anything, pat yourself on the back--you passed the test. But if you  made a fool out of yourself by actually doing sentences 2-15, don't worry--you are not alone. Pass on this test to your buddies, or better yet--print it out and make them all take this test in front of you.
