My river of life
Rating:
Quality: (Quality: Unrated)
Upon reflection, my life seems as a river
Flowing from start to end,
With a plan of Gods choosing as to how I get there
Starting out small, clean, unobstructed
As my life began
There were very few obstructions to hinder the flow
But as life goes on, I see that there are detours
That it isn't always smooth and calm
That sometimes I venture into unknown spaces
And honestly, I am scared by these changes
Because I like to have the calm, smooth flow of the stillness
There are changes that happen to you as you journey downstream
Sometimes, you run against things that you can't move,
But the river of life must keep flowing,,
So you make a decision as to which way to go
Sometimes it's the right choice, and sometimes wrong
But there is no going back and doing it over.
There are also rocks that fall into your life,
Sometimes big, sometimes small, but they all affect you
Some of my rocks have come from people I've known,
And some I have put there
One type is not better or worse than the other
They all affect the flow of your river of life
The question is what do you do with the rocks when they are there?
Do you leave them and accept them?
Or do you try to remove them? And if so, which ones?
Because they all are a part of who you are today, and who you will be tomorrow
You cannot stop the rocks from being thrown into your life
You can put up fences, warning signs, and even take all the rocks away from
nearby
But people will find a way to put them there anyhow
And without them, your path would not have any changes, no adapting
As you adapt to flowing over or around these, your river also gets wider
Sometimes you feel like its too wide, too much to handle
You call out "God, I can't manage this anymore, I need your help"
And in his time, he will make it known to you
Why the detours were necessary, the struggles were there for you
Even the calmest river can become violent
See the smallest, most innocent stream
And continue to pour more water into it, by the storms
For a while, it will handle, it has been tested and stretched before
But if they continue, eventually it overflows its banks
And turns into raging destruction
Out of this come more changes, more rebuilding
Maybe higher walls are put up, but that's not the answer
You cannot build walls to contain the river
Because it has a plan of its own, known to the maker
The way is of balance, to test, yes. but to not overload
My river is also a giver of life
There are so many things that would not be if not for how I was and how I am
There are special things that have been created
That would never have been if not for me
They might have existed, but not the same
Because I am unique, there is no one else like me
Not all is good, not all is bad
Again, a balance
I need to absorb the goodness all around me
To make myself see, not to understand
To accept, not to fight
To be as close to God as I can be
For he alone has the plan, it is not for me to know
My river continues to flow, ever forward... Thank you for that
