Trash Can Fires

The average person grabs a fire extinguisher and put the fire out. The technician grabs a reference manual off the shelf and follows the instructions to get the fire put out. The engineer grabs his HP calculator off the shelf and punches a buncho of buttons to figure out how to get the fire out. The inventor builds a nifty contraption to get the fire out, but due to patent infringements only gets to use it once. The scientist may or may not get the fire out in his lifetime, depending on whether or not he gets the netxt grant. The mathematician scribbles a bunch of figures on a chalkboard and when he's solved the problem says "Hmm, that's interesting," but does not really care if the fire ever gets put out. ------------------------------------------------------------------ The Engineer walks in his office and finds his trash can on fire. He gets the fire extinguisher and puts out the fire. The Mathematician walks in his office and finds his trash can on fire. He gets the fire extinguisher and puts out the fire. The following day : The Engineer walks in his office and finds the trash can on fire on top of her desk. He gets the fire extinguisher and put out the fire. The Mathematician walks in his office and finds the trash can on fire on top of his desk. He takes the trash can and puts it on the floor. He has reduced the problem to a previously solved state. Too solve it again would be redundant.
