Somehow I knew it wasn't enough

So I had to wipe away the tears, and pretend I was tough
The season ended with just a goodbye,
I walked away with my thoughts and sighed
I thought about next year, but sumin wasn't right
I had a small feeling of fear
As the new season approached, somethin
went wrong
But no one had to tell me, I knew you were gone
An empty feeling took over my smile, a feeling
that hadn't been around for a while
I lost faith in myself
I put the pieces of my heart up on a shelf
You were always there to wipe my tears away
after a game
Now I know for sure, that will never happen again
But lately the sun's been shinning down upon my face
And wiping aways this look of disgrace
I'm beginning to realize that this is the way
things have to be
And my only prayer is that you'll never forget me
