Bibles come in many different interpretations, thats why the wording is a little different.
I think that all your uncle witnessed was a sort of "Godism" and came across that as a fortelling to him, because the literal meaning is about that babylonians. Also, keep in mind that yes, the Lord does speak to us, but you can't rely on just picking any verse. One can be depressed, or simply looking for something to read, and open to "and then judas went and hung himself" then close it disliking this Divine book, then open it again to "Go and do likewise." Also, you should never take them for what they say directly on their surface, take it for more then it's looks and apply it to your life.
