Graduation****

I sit in the middle of packing boxes and wonder where the time has gone
Graduation has passed, parties packed up and good-byes said
Today I leave for college and a new life.
But I still look back on the old times as I cross the threshold into adulthood
I shall miss the countless hours of doing nothing
Talking about nothing and everything
Saying little but meaning lots
I shall miss the endless nights talking
The long days of gallivanting
The exploring and discovering
I shall miss the comfort
The safety
The shoulder to lean on
I shall miss what I find as home
The friends who are always calling, making last minute plans
The mother who babied you
The father who taught you how to be strong
The siblings who taught you to be patient
I shall miss senior cut day, even tho we weren’t seniors
The dances and proms, even if they weren’t ours
The straggling in the hallways between classes
The lunches full of sun and fun on the senior green
But most of all I think I’ll miss the times before high school
The times when boys and girls had cooties
The times when college wasn’t even a thought
The times when our biggest worry was how many goals
we scored and who liked us
Now we have to worry about getting good grades
Keeping our GPA up
Getting and keeping a job
Bills
The one thing I shall not miss is you
Because I shall always have you by my side through think and
thin whether in person or in spirit.
You may be and old friend or a new friend, either way I pray
we’ll always be friends
So I sit here and dry my eyes, wipe away the tears. A smile spreads across my face because I know that no matter what, whether I make a hundred friends or 1 in college, I shall always have you back at home, a phone call or email away.
