My Little Hero
Rating:
Quality: (Quality: Unrated)
On September 11, 2002, my 8-year-old cousin, Michael, was rushed to the hospital. He was diagnosed with a rare disease, called Encephalitis, which is a disease that causes the brain to swell and can result in seizures or comas. Encephalitis is extremely rare and only affects about every 1 in 200,000 people. It is said one has a better chance of winning the state lottery than getting this disease. I wish Michael would have saved his luck for the lottery... What happened to Michael isn't fair, but the way I see it, it is all part of God's plan. God meant for some people to be writers, some doctors, some lawyers, and some teachers, but He meant for Michael to be sick. And the way I look upon death , I know it would be devistating to lose Michael, but if he says here, Heaven will be missing an important little angel. So I wrote these poems for him because I love him so much.
*My Little Hero*
At first you seemed so healthy,
It had never crossed my mind,
All that could become of,
The illness the doctors would find.
One day you felt sick,
And we thought everything's alright,
But little did we know of the terrible disease,
Your body had begun to fight.
As days go by I find,
Nothing's getting better.
Now my heart is torn,
Unraveling like a sweater.
You are the bravest person that I know,
You put up such a fight,
You're courageous and you won't give up,
You battle it day and night.
If by chance you go now,
Go and be on your way,
In heaven put in a good word for me,
So we will meet again someday.
You fight for your life and won't give up,
Although you keep returning to ground zero,
And that is why you're my inspiration,
That's what makes you my little hero.
*Sick Of This*
I'm so sick of praying,
Sick of crying,
Sick of worrying,
about you dying.
I'm sick of depression,
Sick of living in fear,
Sick of worrying and wondering,
If tomarrow you'll still be here.
I'm so sick of forcing myself,
to believe everything's alright,
even though I know it's not,
so I cry every night.
I'm sick of being so weak,
I'm sick of being sad for so long,
Everyday my depression grows deeper,
Yet, the rest of my family seems so strong.
I'm sick of putting on a happy face,
I'm sick of living in that lie,
When people see me I'm smiling,
But really I want to cry.
I'm so sick of realizing,
sick of beginning to see,
that God needs you in Heaven,
So he's taking you from me.
I'm sick of pretty much everything,
Because every day brings something new,
But even though I'm sick of this terrible disease,
I'll never be sick of loving you.
*My Sun*
I used to always feel so happy,
Our lives were going fine.
But as soon as I heard the terrible news,
My sun could no longer shine.
My days were filled with color,
with happiness and cheer.
Now my days are so different,
My days I live in fear.
As I heard there was no improvement,
I learned things were getting worse.
You had so many obstacles to overcome,
Like an endless, miserable curse.
I thought it was all over,
I thought the battle we had lost.
I wondered why we had to lose you,
Why we had to pay such a huge cost.
I spent months alone in a dark room,
Giving me time to think and pray.
And I realized that with God on our side,
Everything would be OK.
So I left the light on for you,
And prayed every night.
Just incase you came home,
And suddenly you were alright.
As I heard the news of your homecoming,
I learned things would no longer get worse.
Those obstacles you overcame,
You battled the miserable curse.
Now my days are colorful again,
Filled with happiness and cheer.
My days are lived in greatfulness,
And no longer lived in fear.
Once again, I feel happy,
Now our lives are going just fine.
Now I know you are coming home to me,
So again my sun can shine.
