Animal Abuse
There she was in a cold, dark room awaiting her fate. She knew what would come but did not understand why. She had, had bricks dropped on her head, kicks given and food deprivation since the time she could stand. A strong mind filled her head, but still our race treated her as an object. Her life was routine and worthless except for those looking forward to the gruesome death waiting for her in the blood of her cellmates. She says goodbye to her babies and after a kick, begins to make her way to what they called, the torture room.
The abuse of farm animals is just a minor example of the atrocities concerning animal abuse surrounding our generation.
It8217;s all too often that we turn on the television and see animal cruelty occurring, but since it is on T.V, it is taken as a joke by most. The seriousness is not realized and the difference between a humans8217; life and an animals becomes greater with each laugh. For example: In well known movies such as 8220;Me, Myself and Irene8221; there is a scene shown of the main character killing an injured cow on the road by shooting it in the head. This is meant to be a funny part of the movie but really this is just an aspect that contributes to the gap between animals and humans. In T.V shows, such as 8220;The Simpson8217;s8221; There is a particular episode that comes to my mind, which is about a horse used as an attraction to fall from a high diving board into a small pool in the circus. In this episode the horses8217; emotions of fear are clearly shown, yet those feelings are mocked and covered by laughter and jokes.
When animal cruelty is shown on the news and portrayed in a serious matter involving real life situations, it is only then that this abuse is brought to reality and deemed horribly wrong. An example of this took place a few years ago. A man was on the edge after his dog wouldn't do as he was told, so as a punishment tied him to the back of a truck and proceeded to drive, dragging the poor thing behind, eventually killing him. If this happened in a Simpson8217;s episode I8217;m sure a joke would be made, however since it is reality, people are distraught by the actions towards the dog.
Why is it that humans choose to act this way? Perhaps it8217;s because we8217;re 8216;higher in the food chain8217; and so are given the power to abuse things lower than us in ranking, but that doesn8217;t justify such behaviour such as what the man did to his dog. Abuse is horrible and cowardly, plain and simple. It is picking on someone smaller and less powerful than oneself, which doesn8217;t make one stronger than before, only more cruel.
In all aspects, it needs to be understood that animals have blood, muscle, beating hearts and breathing lungs just as we do. Their emotions are vague to us and although we do not comprehend them, the pain they feel is real so why should we have the right to make them struggle?
